Despite their Bristolian, British origins, The Swamp Stomp String Band might as well hail from the United States. Their intense charge is undeniable, a mixture of playful, observant lyricism and stripped-back rock’n’roll and Country flair making the project vibrant and wholesome. The talented group doesn’t take themselves too seriously, yet they appear quite serious about making good records, as ‘Sofa Surfin’ Mama’ proudly showcases. Marking the project’s latest single, the track showcases everything we love about The Swamp Stomp String Band.
Echoing the adventurous tale of sofa surfing across the country when touring, ‘Sofa Surfin’ Mama’ develops over a traditional, organic formula that draws from bluegrass and early rockabilly flavourings. A charming double-bass, minimalistic percussion, and jungly, bold guitars transform the aural picture into an electrifying, over-the-top bonanza. We love it, this is the right balance between earthy blues stomping and rich, eclectic theatrical flair.
‘Sofa Surfin’ Mama’ is taken from The Swamp Stomp String Band’s latest album, ‘Farm Traffic’, currently being toured by the group. If you get a chance to go to one of their show, you should take it. A rowdy, uplifting experience which is probably much needed in these dire times. That said, new material is in the works, and a new album is expected sometime next year. Stay tuned!
