The Loud Bangs Returns with Shoegaze Masterpiece ‘Stray Honey’ EP

We have been following their journey for a while now. American shoegaze outfit The Loud Bangs has undoubtedly been one of the highlights of the last few months, especially regarding bands with an ethereal and eclectic sound direction. Writing about them in December, we proudly declared: “The Californian shoegaze outfit has been showcasing its ability to write transcending and hypnotizing material, while keeping true to its rock origins.” We stand by our words: The Loud Bangs have been hard at work investigating their artistry, better expressed in a series of EPs, each one highlighting a different trait in the band’s personality.

This time they present us ‘Stray Honey’, the next chapter in the group’s proficient musical history. In it, the listener will find familiar tones next to new tropes. Take for instance the opener ‘Electroprize’. There is a renowned dissonance in it, a newly-found sense of space and time that allows The Loud Bangs to build a darker and haunting track. Even pushing into math rock. Of course, ‘Sex Complex’ returns to their roots. A triumph of nostalgic shoegaze tones and melodious energy.

‘We All Want To Be All Right’ focuses on cinematic vibes, delivering spoken words, field recordings and celestial resonances. A stark contrast to ‘This is a Japanese Robot’ exploring rockier territories and rougher guitars. The EP then comes to a close with ‘Bell Gardens’, a mellow yet hopeful piece that feels more like a declaration of intent. As if the Californian group was to whisper: “We are all good. We are making the best music we possibly can, for you”.

We f*****g love you peeps. Light in a dark tunnel.
