The Interrogation End Five-Year Drought with Pop-Punk Anthem ‘Wicked Happy’

It’s hard not to smile when listening to ‘Wicked Happy’. Not necessarily because we are happy, but more so because of the relentless, energetic pop-punk livery behind it. It almost seems as a rebellious take on a gloomy reality: while the world burns around them, Vancouver-based outfit The Interrogation bathe in hope and positivity, a sentiment that’s quite hypnotic and infectious, and that really shines through ‘Wicked Happy’. The instrumental charge is certainly great, with all parts performed at a high level.

We must say, alongside The Interrogation’s pop-punk character, we can also notice hints of a heavier past, especially into alt-rock and metalcore territories. That’s perhaps what keeps ‘Wicked Happy’ from feeling nostalgic and college-punk-ish. Instead, the record maintains a contemporary flair. Joel French and Thoman Turner’s lead vocals are delivered with an anthemic quality, well-supported by fellow band members Sebastian Valdivia and Erik Nguyen.

Sparking the beginning of a new creative era for the talented group, ‘Wicked Happy’ also marks The Interrogation’s first release since 2020, making the occasion extra special. Originally conceived as a studio-only project, they have also started to perform a few live shows, and judging by what we can hear on their record, we suspect the live experience will be equally euphoric and impressive.
