Good things come to those who wait. The Goodbye Radio did wait for a long time, busy writing music and blooming into the vivid, lively project they are today. Healing from New York, the talented retro-rock outfit champions a nostalgic take on guitar-powered songwriting, penning heartwarming and relatable gems steeped in sharp, anthemic energy and a hidden sense of melancholia. ‘Twisted Time Travelers’ is the perfect evidence of that.
The third single after their debut early this year, the track sees the American group laying heavily into Teenage Fanclub and R.E.M.-esque vibes, still maintaining a clean sense of melody and intense storytelling. It’s a wonderful effort from a band that’s actually not quite debuting now. They are, sort of: boasting a former career under the name Endgames, founders Mike Aronow and Jeff Walsh have navigated the music industry for years before retiring into a long hiatus.
Things always kept bubbling under the surface, and with a whopping seventy songs ready to go, The Goodbye Radio are now ready for an impactful return, especially given their upcoming album ‘In This Sleeping City’. Speaking about the inspiration behind ‘Twisted Time Travelers’, the group explains: “The phrase ‘Twisted Time Travelers’ instantly felt like a short story or a film. It’s about two people who once fell in love, but are now cursed to be out of sync — forever missing each other by a breath. Romantic, tragic, and weirdly hopeful.”
