The Freight Collaborate with Erin MacKenzie on Cover Version of ‘Cool’

Don’t you love a cover? Especially when it involves a fierce rock band approaching a mellow pop number. Guitar-based outfits have always had a delicious knack for adapting ballads and slow-paced tracks, making them a rather special and poignant offering. Take for instance Metallica’s ‘Nothing Else Matters’ – rockers can craft some stunning, relatable and friendly material. That’s exactly what Boston-based band The Freight has done, releasing an evocative rock cover of Gwen Stefani’s hit song, ‘Cool’. To our surprise, the track maintains its delicate and sweet character, even when drenched in light distortion and punchy drums.

Lead vocals are delivered by talented singer Erin MacKenzie, collaborating with The Freight on the record. Her gentle and luscious tone adds an extra layer of depth and intensity to the song, perfectly complementing the band’s dynamic performance. MacKenzie’s soaring voice also seems to be quite akin to Gwen Stefany’s tone, giving a touch of authenticity to it all.

We also love the contrast with Adam Tiro’s gritty vocals (The Freight’s lead singer), creating a sort of sonic chiaroscuro that gives the track a richer and more nuanced personality.
