Our first encounter with whimsical, cosmic duo The Dinosaur’s Skin will always be imprinted in our memory. Writing about ‘Meteor Shower’ late last year, we proudly declared the project “a brand of dream-pop packed with vibrancy and cathartic energy, often with a distinct bucolic and ethereal flair”. That’s a lot of adjectives to say that listening to the Taiwan-based group is akin to a vivid, fragrant fever dream, one that’s overwhelmingly cathartic and full of curious imagery.
Lucky for humanity, The Dinosaur’s Skin are now back with another wonderful effort, a self-titled single that manifests itself as a slice of alt-pop buoyancy and indie charisma, all wrapped up in the project’s floaty, loving lyricism. We are big fans of the production and vocals here: from the lo-fi, playful tones to the surf-rock influences, passing through texture-packed, filtered vocals and tight drums. For any UK-based fans out there, The Dinosaur’s Skin will be playing one of the unofficial showcases around The Great Escape Festival in Brighton, this upcoming May 15th, alongside a London show on the 13th.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the song, the group explain: “This is our theme song! It’s a chill, laid-back anthem with some catchy guitar riffs, tasty basslines, smooth drumbeats, and rich harmonies from our amazing human friends in Nigeria. Born out of chaos, it reflects our journey through uncertainty and identity. As we confront our past and search for who we really are, we hope this song brings you a little hope, courage, and laughter—just like it has for us.”
