It’s been an incredible twelve months for SYOT. The South Korean eclectic outfit debuted on the global stage exactly a year ago, with ‘Rebloom’ setting the cross-cultural path the project has been following so diligently since then. Today, SYOT seeks to pay homage to their beginnings and celebrate their many milestones, a large body of work which includes a long-length album, ‘NAVI’. ‘Mua (無我)’ is the single in question, a track that sees the talented trio looking at the future with newly-found creative flair.
Their aural formula is open to adaptation and iteration; a plastic blend of traditional Korean elements, jazz harmonics, and electronic grooves, one that’s open to being constantly reworked and reshaped. In that sense, ‘Mua (無我)’ shifts the project’s focus onto kinetic and dance-oriented beats, then topped with Yoolim Lee’s gayageum, Hanbeen Park’s piano solos, and G.QOO’s overall production allure.
Delving deeper into the meaningful ethos that propels the record, SYOT explains: “‘Mua (無我)’ is a track created to mark the first anniversary of SYOT. The song begins with a simple idea rooted in Eastern philosophy: that true self-expression starts not by asserting the self, but by emptying it. Unbound by fixed forms, the music flows freely, carrying the moods, textures, and passing sensations gathered over the past year.” Once again, the South Korean group showcases their unmatched visionary artistry.
