sunday works Collab with Megan Carnes on Latest EP ‘Blue Kisses and the Greenest Green’

Oscillating between fuzzy guitar-driven ethos and orchestral electronica, sunday works thrive in the brooding and liminal space that exists among quietness and euphoria.

As we dive into sunday works’ expansive aural universe, it’s hard not to feel the warmth and expansive character that emerges from their shoegaze and dream-pop allure. We are called Mesmerized for a reason… we love to embrace escapism and blissfulness. That’s exactly what the New York City-based duo delivers. Comprised of singer-songwriters Lizzie Ferrell and Jackie Simons, the pair have been sparsely releasing music for the past few years, jumping from distorted yet hazy shoegaze episodes such as ‘Turned to Gloss’ to dreamier and more bucolic efforts. The aptly titled ‘Softly’ comes to mind.

Overall, it’s easy to recognise the clash of opposites that keeps the project’s aural character interesting and fresh. Oscillating between fuzzy guitar-driven ethos and orchestral electronica, sunday works thrive in the brooding and liminal space that exists among quietness and euphoria. In that sense, ‘Blue Kisses and the Greenest Green’ confirms and widens the band’s overarching theming. Marking sunday works’ latest EP, the duo is seen teaming up with like-minded producer and arranger Megan Carnes for a series of ethereal, luscious remixes that expose the American pair’s most tender side.

Across five remixes and two originals (‘Sword In My Belly’ and ‘On The Inside’), ‘Blue Kisses and the Greenest Green’ seeks to distil the project’s aural journey so far, all the while providing new and exciting starting points. For instance, ‘Sword In My Belly’ moves at the absolute extremes of dream-pop and shoegaze. Delving deeper into their artistry, sunday works explain: “We (clearly) don’t follow trends but adore our various influences like Kate Bush and dappled light on a sidewalk in July. We invite you to open your ears and hearts to this album. We have no agenda other than to create and share art. This is our offering.”
