Honestly, ‘Catalyst’ is a really cool record. Partly euphoric, partly haunting, always charismatic. Marking Stefaniii’s debut effort, the piece jumps with both feet into a kinetic indie-powered bonanza, the kind of guitar-coded anthem that was a staple of the early ‘2000s music landscape. Not to say that ‘Catalyst’ is nostalgic; despite its wide influences, it’s relevant and timely. The single’s lyricism goes hand in hand with its electrifying aural contour, describing the audacious act of truly enjoying a fleeting moment of bravado.
‘Catalyst’ also comes with a rather impressive music video, one that perfectly complements the already catchy, fashionable allure of the track. This won’t be a surprise given Stefaniii’s background; known by day as Richard Melkonian, the Armenian-British artist is also a composer and filmmaker. Apart from Stefaniii himself, the video features fellow band members Moyses Dos Santos (Bass), April Roots (Guitar) and Max Saidi (The Drums), as well as featured actress Genevieve Chenneour.
Delving deeper into ‘Catalyst’, Stefaniii explains: “Catalyst is about getting hooked on a moment, that one stare, that one high, that you want over and over again. It’s about the bittersweet ironies of nightlife and searching for desire in places you will never find it.” There’s more to come: stay tuned.
