Statues Debut with Evocative Instrumental Piece ‘Time Down Here’

A cryptic and atmospheric record, ‘Time Down Here’ is touted as “the result of a creative dialogue that began in childhood and quietly endured for decades”. Its creators, going by Statues, are two long-time friends who finally decided to make their dream come true. To do so, they started writing music with an incredibly expansive and hazy character. They don’t focus on songs, per sé, but rather on evoking a certain vibe, an instrumental outlook that’s meant to wrap listeners in introspection and escapism.

It works: ‘Time Down Here’ does exactly that. A four-minute journey into warmth synth-pop production and field recordings of voices and conversations, the piece feels emotional and nuanced, perhaps more than a superficial listen would let on. Echoing the likes of The Tough Alliance, French 87 and Beach House, the single provides an aural experience that’s part familiar and part leftfield, certainly causing a great deal of nostalgia and melancholia in the attentive listener.

Speaking about the inspiration behind the track, Statues explain: “It was written during a quiet, reflective period where everything felt paused, but underneath, something new was starting to take shape. The song captures that tension: the weight of memory, the ache of what’s gone, and the quiet pull toward what’s next. It’s about staying in that space long enough for something to shift.”
