Soffel Returns with Introspective Album ‘Even Oceans Fall Apart’

A long album, ‘Even Oceans Fall Apart’ shines for its aural qualities, brooding and crepuscular, as well as its lyrical virtuosity, introspective and melancholic. Meet Soffel.

Following up on a string of singles unveiled throughout the past year, Ukrainian-born songstress Soffel has now unveiled the general thread that unites all of them. ‘Even Oceans Fall Apart’ is exactly that, a long album that weaves together crepuscular, introspective reflection and grittier, bolder alt-pop episodes. Packed with a whopping fifteen tracks, the record showcases the fertile productivity enjoyed by Soffel. To note, she’s both the songwriter and producer of her material, truly embodying a strong DIY persona.

There’s something for everyone in ‘Even Oceans Fall Apart’; from the industrial, techno-leaning tones of ‘raise glass down’ to the melancholic, more organic shenanigans behind ‘breathless’; the album’s strong eclecticism is one of its main features, although every piece shares Soffel’s brooding lyrical allure, a quality that makes the overall LP sombre and cathartic.

Delving deeper into the creative ethos that propels the record, Soffel explains: “This album is a conceptual exploration of deconstruction, both of a relationship and of the self. I wanted to document the precise moment when the structures we build our lives around begin to crumble. Even Oceans Fall Apart is about the tension between the public mask and private collapse.” We appreciate the complex and layered lyrical picture; not only is Soffel a talented producer and visionary, but she’s also a thoughtful wordsmith.
