Envi Jordan’s artistic universe is incredibly complex and purposeful, yet also so relatable and hard-hitting. Hailing from Seattle, the Caribbean-American talent champions a Queer-coded aesthetic woven through unfiltered authenticity and empowering lyricism, all features that act as foundational ‘building blocks’ for Jordan’s music. ‘Somebody to Love’ is the perfect example of that. Marking Envi’s latest effort, the track oscillates between EDM-inspired, mainstream-leaning pop aura and unapologetic self-confidence, a quality that’s instantly apparent from the opening spoken words.
“Loving yourself” appears as a central theme to ‘Somebody to Love’, serving as the starting point of a personal journey that would later materialise through the need for human connection and emotional availability. Simply, it’s a way to recognise that we deserve better, and that we should allow our bodies to express themselves fully. Jordan’s vocals are on point, here showcasing their incredible dynamism and catchy appeal.
‘Somebody to Love’ also ships with a strikingly cinematic music video (the project’s first to date), adding a personal twist and a new layer of meaning to an already purposeful record. As Jordan explains: “It felt great to explore a new medium of creation and express myself in that way… expanding the universe of the song with a visual element. I also express myself in dance with the choreography I created, and embolden that with more writing, a spoken word piece at the beginning of the video. As a whole, the ‘Somebody to Love’ project has been cathartic. I definitely look forward to making more music videos in the future.”
