Side Bangs Debut with Shoegaze Gem ‘Wedding Season’

There’s a new mesmerising outfit on the shoegaze scene. Introducing Side Bangs, NY-based trio with a knack for ethereal atmospheres, clean guitar tones and sleazy drum grooves. ‘Wedding Season’ is their latest effort, an artistic statement on what’s to come. In it, the listener will be confronted by polite shoegaze, never overplaying its hand. As a trio, Side Bags manage to control their sound, keeping a lid on guitar distortion, at least for now. It’s also their eclecticism that makes sure we never jump head-first into Drop Nineteens territories, instead exploring elements from neighbouring genres, such as psychedelic rock, trip-hop, punk and grunge.

The songwriting prowess of Side Bangs’ frontwoman Stephanie Rodgers is on full display in ‘Wedding Season,’ as she skillfully navigates the complexities of love and relationships with a deft touch. The production of the song was a collaborative effort between Rodgers, Mark Marshall, and Denise Barbarita, resulting in a sonic tapestry that is both lush and intricate. Rodgers’ vocals are also powerfully evocative, driving the track forward in a solemn fashion.

For those who are looking for musical comparisons, the sound of the band has been likened to such luminaries as Slowdive, Cocteau Twins and Lana Del Rey, among others. However, it would be a disservice to this talented group to confine them to any one particular genre or influence. What’s clear is that they are not a conventional shoegaze band, but rather an ever-evolving creative endeavour perfectly fitting our modern times.
