See How Platforms an Urgent Message in Climate-Driven Cut ‘422ppm’

We first familiarised ourselves with the futuristic, boundary-pushing electronic tones of British producer See How last summer, reviewing ‘Do It’ as “a bubbly and hypnotising fast-paced banger”. That was true; the record sounded incredibly vibrant and euphoric, yet drenched in a variety of nostalgic influences and club-oriented goodness. Today, the London-based producer returns with ‘422ppm’, an evocative UK garage heater steeped in atmospheric tones and a meaningful outlook.

Sonically, ‘422ppm’ is extremely lush and nuanced, with enticing underground grooves weaving in and out of glimmering synths and vintage-flavoured sampling. Crowning the piece, we find eloquent spoken words delivered by prominent UK activist, writer, councillor and TV pundit Chantelle Lunt. Blending leftfield electronica with climate activism and forward-thinking social justice, the record transforms itself into a prophetic, ethical banger, a slice of enlightened truth in an increasingly gloomy reality.

As See How explains: “When I started the initial ideas for this track, the planet had reached 422 parts per million of CO2 in the atmosphere. By the time this track is released, we will have passed 430ppm. Circling back to the phrase ‘guard this land, so that all can breathe’, I wanted to platform Chantelle’s message of guardianship, to say that from our dark past, there is still hope to be found in those who remember our original mission”.
