Scott Yoder Unveils Imaginative Album ‘Lover, Let Me In’

We gracefully teased ‘Lover, Let Me In’ back in May, celebrating Yoder’s ‘Never Be Another Day’ as “relatable and welcoming alt-pop substance, yet steeped in nostalgic pop-rock euphoria”. We stand by our words; Scott’s artistic output is highly magical and eclectic, initiating a listening experience that’s partly flamboyant, partly dreamy and partly evocative. The Seattle-based creative has recently unveiled his latest album, ‘Lover, Let Me In’, a nuanced display of artistic prowess and imaginative songwriting.

Oscillating between pop and rock with a psych, glam-esque flair, the record feels colourful and uplifting, drawing from a variety of sources but most importantly from tradition. Yoder’s sound is certainly heartwarming and wholesome, echoing the psychedelia of the 70s, even in its aural choice. You see, ‘Lover, Let Me In’ is fiercely packed with actual instruments, a flurry of guitars, organs and early synthetisers, a choice that makes it look like a distant fever-dream, a jump into an alternative universe.

Expressive and personal, ‘Lover, Let Me In’ is Scott Yoder at his finest. As the American talent explains: “I can be aloof, but I think this record is me trying to crack that open and shake myself out of it. This whole project is about trying to connect with people in ways I can’t through words. It’s about feeling like there’s a barrier between you and someone you care about, and, no matter what you do, no matter how many different ways you try to look at it, no matter either of your good intentions, you just can’t break down that barrier.”
