We first teased [SAMPLE_TEXT]’s destructive noise rock in April 2024, celebrating the band’s previous album ‘Lewd & Languid’ as “jumping into post-rock paradise with incredible eagerness”. Since then, the Anchorage, Alaska-based trio has been hard at work, continuing their mission into grunge, gritty, noisy and lofi territories. ‘Viewing Room’ is the result of such a deep artistic commitment, with Reece Caldwell, Tyler Farrell, and Jacob Marsh boldly entering the next phase of their project.
A new phase that feels ever more dystopian and chaotic, both from a production and compositional standpoint. You’ve got your detuned guitars, crunchy distortions and euphoric drum grooves, but also your heavily compressed recording, all delivered with a heightened lo-fi allure, as if they were newly discovered demos from the late 90s. ‘Palisades’ particularly catches our attention, a quirky blend of grunge and post-metal goodness. We feel as though [SAMPLE_TEXT] are happy to embrace a more extreme and experimental rock flair, and we are here for it.
Fear not, there’s a reason behind it. You see, the Alaskan group is perfectly aware of the complexity of our times; their music is covered in gloominess, pain and melancholy. That’s not a secret; here’s what they hastily declare: “We are living in hell. I’m living in hell. This place is hell. No amount of Babylonian hype narcissist bs will save u from the misery of living in this era of non-culture.” ‘Viewing Room’ is the Alaskan band’s attempt to escape it all.
