We are rather familiar with Rushkeys’ kaleidoscopic electronic offering. A sonic visionary and an explorer of the leftfield, the Lithuanian producer has often enjoyed treating his records like a tapestry of hazy and eclectic tones, also sprinkling an elegant world music ethos on them. Lately, he’s been busy remixing some absolute gems, as ‘Biakoye (Rushkeys remix)’ previously showcased. Now, the Vilnius-based talent has returned with another interpretation, borrowing a wonderful track from Syrian artist Ablozé, ‘Home’.
Overall, Rushkeys doesn’t completely rewrite the sonic picture, instead focusing on details and a heightened sense of lusciousness. The original version’s Middle Eastern references are maintained, now blended with Rushkeys’ signature Aerophone melodies and an euphoric, spacious atmosphere. What really counts, though, is the way he’s able to elevate ‘Home’ while still paying homage to Ablozé’s meaningful ethos, steeped in themes of displacement, discovery and reinvention.
Speaking about the record, Rushkeys explains: “The remix captures the bittersweet feeling of returning home after a long time away.” A trend is starting to emerge, placing the Lithuanian musician as a global powerhouse in the chill-out, alternative electronic scene. Some might liken him to Bonobo and Parra for Curva, although we believe he’s got unique traits that positively boost the Rushkeys brand.
