Rushkeys fully deserves his ‘artist’ title. Hailing from Lithuania, the talented creative doesn’t settle for mainstream energy or viral trends, instead pursuing a very personal and leftfield take on electronica and cathartic soundscapes. Mesmerized is already familiar with the project, so much so that we confide in every Rushkeys record being incredibly effective. We are right; ‘Biakoye (Rushkeys remix)’ is the Vilnius-based producer’s latest effort, and – to no surprise – it’s incredibly vibrant and potent, immersed in ethereal textures and African-flavoured field recordings.
Originally written by Peter Vogelaar as an eclectic and tribal-esque house record, ‘Biakoye’ now moves into Bonobo-esque territories, with a floaty, slow-moving parade of textures and plucks gently lulling the listeners into a soothing sense of security. Orchestral strings pack the piece with evocative feelings and limitless elegance, with the remix moving away from club-oriented territories into chillout listening shores.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the piece, Rushkeys explains: “For my remix of ‘Biakoye’, I was drawn to the organic feel of the original and wanted to bring that out even more while keeping its spirit intact. The original’s field recordings and string arrangements already carried a strong sense of atmosphere, so I built around those elements, emphasizing the strings and weaving in a dynamic rhythmic flow.”
