The keen reader might remember Rose Ringed from a feature we published earlier this year, celebrating the Amsterdam-based producer and creative as “navigating a personal style that’s anthemic, evocative and highly relatable”. We stand by our words: a DJ, songwriter and even singer, the Dutch artist has threaded the fine line between hypnotic electronica and leftfield club-oriented goodness, making for an electrifying, magnetic aural aura. We did tease Rose Ringed’s new album back then, too…
Out today via Closed Eyes Recordings, ‘Mylène’ plays a pivotal role in the project’s evolution and maturity. A long, conceptual album, the record carries seventeen tracks of great personal importance to Rose Ringed. Remembering his late mother, whom he lost at only 11 years old, the Dutch musician builds a sonic and lyrical universe that’s poignant and dreamy, a slice of escapism and relatable motifs that’s bound to connect to a wide audience out there.
Delving deeper into the ethos behind the album, Rose Ringed explains: “‘Mylène’ has the timeline of me as a young boy losing her, then a man still mourning as if I was 11, now after healing myself, becoming an adult who sees her loss in a new way. All tracks are made by me, mixed by me, and all the lyrics are written and sung by me after five years of singing lessons. The album is my life’s greatest work so far.”
