Threading the fine line between hardstyle euphoria and pop sensibilities, ‘Saved My Life (A Story To Myself)’ provides quite an unconventional listening experience. In fact, it’s been a while since we listened to hardstyle; that’s a genre that never gets old, but that has certainly fallen behind the mainstream movement. It’s still very much alive in Northern Europe, though, with creatives such as Riax constantly innovating on tradition. ‘Saved My Life (A Story To Myself)’ is the perfect evidence of that.
The record has two opposing identities; on one side, you’ve got your melodic, pop-like sections, with heartwarming, evocative male vocals delivering an epic tale of resilience and empowerment. On the other side, there’s a healthy amount of striking hardstyle goodness, delivered with restraint and gusto by the Netherlands-based producer. The effects on the listener are truly cathartic, involving a stream of deep emotions rising to the surface.
Delving deeper into the inspiration behind the single and lyricism, Riax explains: “It is a story about having a conversation with your younger self, telling him how everything he struggles with and is going through will all be fine one day. I started the track at the beginning of 2025, and throughout the following months, I really tried perfecting it to what it is today.” Well, mission accomplished.
