The perfect marriage of hard-hitting rock tones and kaleidoscopic pop elements, ‘do it my way’ feels rather rebellious and fierce, all qualities that derive not just from its sonic aura, but also from its meaningful lyricism. Written as an anthem towards self-confidence and independence, the song sees British musician and songwriter Rhys Hurd embracing his resilient side, pursuing an artistic path that’s uniquely his.
‘do it my way’ is the strongest evidence of that; introduced by nostalgic synths and electronic atmospheres, the piece then shifts completely towards sharp distortion and alt-rock euphoria, with dance-inducing drum grooves functioning as a catchy counterpoint. Synths remain sprinkled throughout, effectively giving shape to a rather eclectic piece; one that might appeal to both the relentless alternative peeps and the cool pop kids.
Hurd has been busy recently, having released three singles in the span of a few months. It’s great to see him back in the industry, and we suspect there might be an EP or an album coming soon…! Delving deeper into ‘do it my way’, Rhys explains: “My lyrics tell the stories of my struggles with self-confidence, identity and love. I believe these stories can connect with me with young musicians or artists who are also struggling to understand who they want to be and maybe feel like they don’t have any value.”
