renaissance boy Unleashes Spellbinding Debut Single ‘sugarbird’

Noah Longworth McGuire is the brains behind the Los Angeles-based musical project known as renaissance boy. As a trained jazz pianist, self-taught guitarist, drummer, producer, and seasoned vocalist, there’s really not much McGuire cannot do. At the end of last month, he released his crackingly upbeat debut single ‘sugarbird’, a tune that he describes as, “a cheeky bisexual anthem about finding love in all forms”. Sonically, it’s a toughie to pin down. It starts off gently with a hypnotising guitar and Noah’s passionate, earnest vocals, before turning into an addictively jangly and foot-tapping little number. The raw and unpolished nature of the track only enhances its appeal – stripping away all pretentiousness and flash.

‘sugarbird’ is the first single from McGuire’s upcoming album entitled ‘music for birds’, with each song on the album inspired by a different bird. “The album is loosely based around the dissolution of a complicated relationship,” says Noah. “And coming to terms with mental health and sexual identity”.

renaissance boy is an artist who wears his heart on his sleeve. Sure, this is just his debut single, but I get the feeling ‘music for birds’ is going to be something rather special, and I cannot wait for its release!
