It’s always fun to jump back into rebellious, gritty and DIY territories, once in a while. The over-polished, near-perfect coasts of modern pop and rock tend to get boring… That’s why we really appreciate having the chance to write about Red Kate’s latest album, ‘Exit Strategy’, a wonderful slice of fierce old-school punk and malleable rock stylings, all delivered with charisma and deep gravitas – the kind of charisma that stems from years of militance in the field.
Released back in November 2023, ‘Exit Strategy’ sees Kansas City record label Black Site stand behind the American group, proudly showcasing the album to a wider public. In it, the keen listener will find tons of DIY energy, including fashionable lo-fi production value and fuzzy, hard-hitting guitar tones, together with evocative and anthemic vocals and leftfield lyricism.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the album, ‘Red Kate’ explains how it seeks to penetrate the “disinformation-soaked wall of incessant noise that deafens and numbs us daily. While it’s natural to wonder how we got to this sorrowful state, ‘Exit Strategy’ asks the more relevant question, ‘How do we get out?”
