Prem Byrne is back! The Woodacre, CA-based singer-songwriter has enjoyed a very productive year so far, unveiling a number of singles whose musical merits we have already spoken about at length (check out our previous article for ‘Orion’). He’s not done yet, as Prem’s latest release ‘Here In America’ clearly showcases. As usual, it features gentle rock-pop tones with a distinct acoustic flair.
The song revolves entirely around its meaningful and observant lyricism, a quality that we know is rather central to Byrne’s artistic experience. In this case, ‘Here In America’ takes a hard look at the wounds caused by slavery, exploring the legacy of a dark period in US history, and the many ways it still influence the world we live in today. We suspect this to be quite an emotional release for Prem.
Delving deeper into the creative ethos that propels ‘Here In America’, the Californian troubadour explains: “This song has been brewing in me since I first studied US history. Walking through poor neighbourhoods in this country always made me consider that the wounds of slavery have not yet healed.” One of Byrne’s most relatable releases to date, the track will likely connect with a wide audience out there. Who knows, it might even serve as a conduit for the discovery and healing of old wounds…
