It feels like yesterday when we were writing about ‘Summer Rain’, celebrating it as “taking a more evocative path, one that’s nevertheless groovy and vibrant.” In hindsight, that was merely an appetiser, paving the way for Paulo and the Problems’ newly-released album, ‘Stupid Sexy Paulo’. Aptly titled, the record wraps listeners in a stream of charming vocals, luscious R&B, and hip-hop-esque sonic energy. What more could you wish for?
Framed into Fogwood Records’ artistic family, ‘Stupid Sexy Paulo’ also functions as a showcase for the Raleigh-based label. In it, we find some familiar names, such as Saynave, Mekfly, Dude Low, Allie Crisp, and Elise Chantelle. Getting together and contributing to the album in different ways, the talented pool of creatives takes good care of all vocal duties, giving the resulting record an evocative, timeless and cathartic flair.
As a bonus, we have a trio of animated music videos, guided by the project’s dog mascot, Nico. Speaking about the inspiration behind the release, Fogwood Records explains: “The album marks a bold, funky dive into the band’s roots in old-school R&B and hip-hop—filtered through their unmistakably modern sound.” Overall, it’s a wonderful effort, one that will certainly conquer like-minded listeners all around the globe.
