‘Heart Like a Hurricane’ functions as a stepping stone into Patrick Costello‘s musical universe, an eclectic and roaring place where one can observe him jumping from genre to genre with the confidence of a seasoned songwriter and musician. After all, that’s exactly who he is! Recorded at Laughing Tiger Studios in San Rafael, CA, the single is a joy to listen to, taking us back to the glorious sixties.
From a sonic standpoint, ‘Heart Like a Hurricane’ feels rather old-school and nostalgic, but still relevant and electrifying. Drawing inspiration from the likes of Elvis Presley and The Blasters, among others, Patrick Costello unveils a massive rockabilly throwback that’s kinetic and bold, something that you can even dance to, if the need to do so were to arise. Costello’s vocals are very convincing, super malleable and with just the right amount of grittiness.
Delving deeper into the playful lyrical ethos that propels the song, Costello explains: “It’s a classic boy meets girl story, the euphoria and passion that emerges when young people first meet cute… the universal celebration of young love and the desire for intimacy!” We appreciate such an easy-going theme, perfect evidence of the observant, wide-ranging nature of Patrick’s songwriting. ‘Heart Like a Hurricane’ will no doubt resonate with a large audience out there.
