Continuing to develop their playful, laidback character and relatable, tongue-in-cheek lyricism, American outfit Parrotfish have recently unveiled ‘4K Friends’, an uplifting, lush anthem that’s the perfect example of their high-octane, dancy flair, a quality that’s been frequently confirmed by the band over the past few years. Anticipating an upcoming EP, ‘4K Friends’ feels contemporary and particularly relevant.
Exploring the modern obsession with refusing to engage socially, the Nashville-based group shines a light on the decline of human connection at a time when anything can be procured through digital screens, simply by staying home. As Parrotfish explain: “‘4K Friends’ about people not wanting to go out and make genuine connections with those around them because they feel safe in their little holes and can get anything they need delivered straight to them on their screens. Entertainment, food, sex; you can even workout at home without ever going outside”.
Steeped in slick indie-rock energy, ‘4K Friends’ finds Parrotfish at their best, with an exuberant, euphoric and bright sonic formula that’s fast-paced and highly enticing. Singer Conor Lynch’s vocals are precise and clean, the perfect match for the band’s eclectic aural goodness. Overall, the record is pretty impressive, especially when taking into account the longstanding career enjoyed by the group. Parrotfish are not done yet, getting better year after year.
