Pablo Eskobear Shares Laidback, Carefree Cut ‘The Good Ol’ Daze’

What if I told you that Pablo Eskobear used to be a metal drummer? Would you be impressed? That’s miles away from the playful, groovy, and laidback hip-hop goodness he’s now producing. Yet, it also makes a lot of sense, in a way: musicians grow, evolve, and while the Grand Rapids, MI-based creative has shifted genre, his work is still very much focused on rhythms and drums, just with a great deal of sampling prowess in it. ‘The Good Ol’ Daze’ is the perfect evidence of that.

Taken from Pablo’s latest album ‘The Heat’, ‘The Good Ol’ Daze’ is a window into the project’s eager playfulness, as the listeners are soaked into charming electric pianos and wonky percussions. Simple melodic motifs help the track embrace a carefree, fun character, showcasing Eskobear’s beat-making prowess. We also notice a distinct soulful flavour in the record, something that also extends to the overarching album. A sign that the American producer has been hard at work, dusting off old vinyls and grainy records.

Delving deeper into the ethos behind ‘The Good Ol’ Daze’, Eskobear explains: “I tried to capture a feeling of the time when I was younger, had fewer responsibilities, and my whole life ahead of me. I didn’t realise how good I had it when I was in that time and space. It’s like I was in a daze”. Mission accomplished, as the piece evokes optimism and joy – no matter how fleeting.
