It’s been a rather productive year for Orin Kilo! Debuting back in March with ‘Feelings’, the talented guitarist, singer and songwriter has since followed that up with ‘Let The Music’ and the recently released ‘Glow Up’. All three singles reveal quite a compelling aural picture, with Kilo delving deeper into funk-infused R&B and luscious, nostalgic pop territories. Overflowing with energy and charisma, Orin’s work is often euphoric and dance-inducing, a slice of bold, fierce artistry in an overly gloomy reality.
‘Glow Up’ is the single that catches our attention, perhaps the most interesting of the three. Embracing his inner Bruno Mars, Orin Kilo delivers a carefree, weightless listening experience, developing an eclectic sonic formula that focuses on uplifting grooves and playful motifs. Kilo’s vocal tone is incredibly malleable and dynamic, switching between spoken words and whimsical singing with a strong Motown flair.
The British creative describes his music as ‘timeless’, and to be fair, it does feel quite like it. Not belonging to any particular decade, ‘Glow Up’ borrows from the likes of Michael Jackson and Prince, passing through modern icons such as The Weeknd and Mark Ronson. It’s a chaotic, yet ripe whirlwind of influences that transforms the Orin Kilo sound into irresistible aural matter. If you get the chance to witness the project live, please do so: Kilo’s stage presence seems absolutely flawless.
