Nomad Disco Share Charming Yet Austere ‘Pressure Island’

We truly dig Nomad Disco’s icy, austere brand of post-punk’s goodness. Reaching out to neighbouring genres, such as shoegaze and new wave, the Prague-based outfit manages to deliver material that’s nostalgic, melancholic, yet intense and electrifying. ‘Pressure Island’ is their latest effort, an eight-track album which greatly showcases all the nuanced artistry Nomad Disco have to offer.

Introduced by an intro that’s sonically richer than the rest of the record, ‘Pressure Island’ then delves into fast-tempo new wave, all drenched in a strong Soviet post-punk livery. Simple yet iconic guitar riffs are layered next to elegant drum grooves and bass accents. ‘Napoli’ and ‘Praha’ are perfect examples of that. Further along, ‘Coma’ tries a harder rock imprint, while maintaining the band’s signature austerity – as so does ‘Torture Room’.

With deep, malleable vocals echoing the likes of Molchat Doma, among others, Nomad Disco now have our unconditional attention. Their music is slightly retro, perhaps a tad lo-fi, but overall packed with a meaningful livery that makes it easily digestible.
