London-based creative NEO 10Y returns today with another striking example of their meaningful, researched artistry, ‘ASCETIC HEDONIST’. It’s an intriguing single, as it develops within two layers; two planes of existence, if you will: you’ve got its face value, steeped in contemporary pop melodies and eye-catching production, and then a hidden layer of deep philosophical commitment, a sign that NEO 10Y thrives on abstraction and a heightened sense of purpose.
The reader might have already noticed the record’s somewhat paradoxical title. ‘ASCETIC HEDONIST’ puts together Ascetism (severe self-discipline and abstention from worldly pleasures) and Hedonism (the pursuit of pleasure and sensual self-indulgence) as a way to reach “long-term joy”. In other words, it pushes us all to refrain from instant gratification, instead favouring “something deeper and more sustainable when approached with discipline and intention”, as NEO 10Y eloquently explains.

Written, produced and performed by NEO himself, the track also benefits from the co-production help of Jennings Couch.
