Nancy Love Showcases Her Evocative Flair in ‘First Lover’

‘First Lover’ represents our point of entry into Nancy Love’s artistic universe. First released in 2013, but still incredibly contemporary and relevant, the record unveils a stream of evocative R&B and pop goodness, with a vibrant instrumental perfectly complementing Love’s hard-hitting, honest and meaningful lyricism. Hailing from Toronto, the Canadian songstress boasts an impressive album to her name, ‘This is Me’, a sort of artistic manifesto showcasing all of her wholesome creativity and lovable flair.

Getting back to ‘First Lover’, we instantly noticed its catchy pop character, laced with bouncy beats and a poignant piano tone. It’s perhaps quite nostalgic on its R&B side, but that’s exactly what it’s supposed to be: an appealing pop anthem aimed at a large audience. It’s only a matter of time till such audience connects with Nancy’s hypnotising, cathartic vocals. The listening experience is rather intense and emotional, aiding a journey through old flames and forbidden romantic flings.

Delving deeper into the single, Nancy Love explains: “This song is for anyone who’s ever called someone their first love, only to realise they weren’t their forever love. It’s about the beauty in those lessons and the strength that comes from moving forward. I write music to tell stories that connect us—and this one is especially close to my heart.”
