All good things come to an end. Munk Duane’s epic artistic saga must end, too, but not before one last striking episode. ‘Falsify’ is the season finale, completing a journey that started back in 2020, a journey that saw the Boston-based composer and musician release a wealth of meaningful retro-flavoured nuggets, including ‘Fearless Moral Inventory’, an album unveiled earlier this year. In fact, we have covered the project a fair bit already, something that makes ‘Falsify’ a rather bittersweet feature.
Wrapped in 80s-inspired drum machine and glam-esque guitar distortions, ‘Falsify’ navigates the borderless territories between AOR rock influences and funk-pop extravaganza, all treated into vintage playfulness and anthemic melodies. Duane’s dynamic and catchy vocals remind us of Phil Collins, especially in the harmonies-packed choruses. It’s a wonderful easter egg, one that very much fits the aural ethos behind the track. We can fully appreciate Munk’s ability to explore mainstream and leftfield waters equally, extracting what he needs in order to craft a lush and perfect slice of musical goodness.
Speaking about ‘Falsify’, Duane shares: “This song marks what I feel is a final word on a body of work I started during the pandemic. Over the last five years, I’ve been exploring a cohesive blend of retro soul and modern indie-pop. Falsify ties it all together.” The American musician’s next adventure will be released under the Circle of Saints moniker – we look forward to learning more about it.
