Mortal Prophets Shares Abstract Masterpiece ‘GUITARWORKS’

New York City’s John Beckmann has long been a welcomed guest on our publication. Releasing music under the moniker Mortal Prophets, the talented sonic explorer navigates eclectic territories, so much so that we could classify him as a holistic artist, shifting his musical references following his own need for expression. While we know the project for its incursion in rock and blues territories, Beckmann now returns with a record that’s surprisingly meaningful and nuanced, drastically widening the project’s scope of action.

‘GUITARWORKS’ is as good as one would expect: entering ambient and avant-garde landscapes, the album sees Beckmann focusing on the tonal abilities of his trusty guitar, here used as a cathartic vehicle for metaphorical imagery and emotional relief. It works: the listening experience is intense, yet mellow and reinvigorating.

Providing a safe haven for daily escapism, ‘GUITARWORKS’ caters to our deepest needs, offering a stream of sonic consciousness that never tires the ear – in fact, it heals them, offering pure, unfiltered musical bliss with a decisively experimental flair. As Beckmann explains: “A live wire with just enough electricity to hum without harm, tempering the threat of death with a warmth we’ve been missing for years”.
