Reacting to the greed and power abuse that riddle our society, German band Moonarch has recently unveiled their latest effort, ‘King Of Nothing’, a piece that feels timely and observant, as well as explosive and exciting. It’s the perfect point of entry into the group’s melodic dark rock universe, a place that feels quite progressive at times, too. Gloomy and distorted guitar tones co-exist alongside haunting electronic textures and an array of vocal tones.
Hailing from Hamburg, Moonarch has been active since 2024. Boasting five original releases under their belt, the project is guided by singer Alessio Gjergo and his malleable, hard-hitting vocals. We are quite impressed with the way Moonarch are able to blend melodic fervour and intense, dark rock matter. The result is a sound that’s almost cinematic at times: giant, evocative and epic.
Delving deeper into the meaningful creative ethos that propels ‘King Of Nothing’, Moonarch explains: “The lyrics tell the story of a dystopian world, where the greed of rulers and the tech-focus of our society have led to its downfall. Kings rule over nothing; their thrones and buildings still stand, but no one is there to be ruled, or to admire the buildings”. It’s quite a strong statement from a band that likes to play heavy, both in the sonic and songwriting aspects. We suspect people will relate to it.
