Moneõ Remixes The Dead Blues Club – Discover ‘Party Tricks’

It is always interesting to observe the results of a collaboration. Chances are, all interested parties will gain something positive from the experience, evolving and enriching their artistry. Take for instance The Dead Blues Club, escapist rock project of British hero Richard Gray, and Moneõ, Toronto-based fuzzy electronica outfit powered by Piotr Majer. The two have come together to deliver a wonderful remix of ‘Party Tricks’, a song previously released by TDBC. The results are curious, almost surprising.

You see, Moneõ manages to push Gray into unexpected territories, showcasing how his vocals do adapt to virtually every setting. In fact, the grittiness and light distortion wrapping them pairs perfectly with Moneõ’s hard-hitting and saturated electronica, echoing industrial and techno tones together with lighter trip-hop influences.

Of course, one might seek to contextualize: does The Dead Blues Club fits into this very alluring artistic picture? We would argue it does. Even in its original arraignment, ‘Party Tricks’ exudes a strong haunting quality, bordering creepy energy and ripening on saturation and lo-fi guitar tones. Dissonance is also not a stranger, drawing a consistent line with Moneõ’s modern interpretation. The Canadian producer just closes the gap to a vision that was already there, rolling out dark and hypnotising synthesisers on top of cryptic drum machines.
