Man At Sea Shares Soothing Tale of Wisdom in ‘Richard Feynman’

We were unfamiliar with Man At Sea. And yet, after listening to the project for only a few seconds, we felt an immense sense of comfort and acceptance, perhaps aided by the soothing, gentle and introspective nature of the sonic material. Based in Bristol, Man At Sea is one of the most interesting Folk artists we have heard this year. His latest effort – ‘Richard Feynman’ – explores his artistry on different levels.

There’s the musical one. Introduced by an understated acoustic guitar, the track is soon joined by Man At Sea’s evocative vocals, so nuanced and intense, yet delivered with charm and nonchalance. The British talent’s voice is very luxurious: a gooey, emotional tone that fully hits the listeners in their deep consciousness. Later in the track, we get served a full-band arrangement, slowly building the record towards a poignant cinematic ending.

What about the lyrical level? It’s here that we can finally catch a glimpse of Man At Sea’s wisdom and complex storytelling. He’s a writer in the classic sense, using his songs to collect inner thoughts and philosophical themes. ‘Richard Feynman’ seeks to address a very specific question: “What constitutes a successful artistic life? – especially in the strange new era of posthumous worldwide fame on the internet.” Let Man At Sea guide you through his answer.
