Hypnotising and anthemic – there’s a lot of value to be discovered in ‘Snowbirds’. Blending the commercial and the alternative, the record emerges as a sort of heightened version of Magnus & John‘s musical eclecticism, crafting a sonic livery that’s never dull or taken for granted. Constantly modulating, the EP surprises the listener positively, offering an intense dance-filled, euphoric experience.
Opened by its title track, ‘Snowbirds’ develops on charming and evocative female vocals, crowning a trance-inducing arpeggio which feels bright and lively. ‘Love is the Answer’ continues on the same theme, although on a darker, hazier level – there’s some techno in here! ‘Sublime (Sunday Morning Remix)’ shifts the overall sonic picture, embracing a wider disco identity over spacious vocals.
‘I Need Love’ gets back to ‘Snowbirds’ main strength, indulging once again in trance and progressive techno territories. Overall, this is a great record, both in its artistic vision and technical execution. Hailing from Luxembourg, Magnus & John are certainly doing something right.
