We still remember writing about Lipford earlier this year. Back then, we found ourselves hypnotised by Lipford’s “full-bodied, nuanced vocal tone, incredibly heartwarming and cathartic” – as we so boldly described it. If ‘Sunday Morning’ was an evocative, stripped-back acoustic gem, the Italian-American creative’s latest effort takes up a much more electrifying and hard-hitting sonic livery, with ‘Just a Cry’ embracing a rowdy prog-rock livery, one that perfectly emphasises Lipford’s dramatic, malleable vocals.
Drenched in anthemic flair, ‘Just a Cry’ features the fierce and explosive guitar riffs of Rome-based band The Rezonaut, helping Lipford get back to the rock scene. In fact, he boasts a past militancy in alternative band MANTRAM, and we can certainly see the affinity between Lipford’s epic vocal allure and heavy distortions; the two gel together incredibly well. ‘Just a Cry’ was recorded by Francesco Grammatico at the Jungle Music Factory, while mixing and mastering were handled by Matteo Marciano at Sonic Dunes Studio.

Delving deeper into what’s clearly a meaningful, well-crafted song, Lipford explains: “Sometimes we feel the need to let out a cry. A cry that tears through the veil of coherence, that breaks the patterns, the conventions, the masks we wear every day. We are an ocean of sensations in turmoil: emotional waves that overwhelm us, transform us, challenge us. But are we truly capable of facing these inner storms?”
