Laura Musgrave’s name is one wrapped in honours and success. Between her recent consideration for the prestigious GRAMMY Awards® in the categories of Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Song, and winning the ‘International Female Single of the Year (Gold Award)’ at the 2023 International Singer-Songwriters Association (ISSA) Awards, the talented British songstress has literally hypnotized a global audience, something that comes rather easy given Musgrave’s anthemic, powerful vocals. Yet, we do not doubt that getting here took years of hard graft and dedication: something that fully comes through in ‘Crumbs’.
Marking the project’s latest single, ‘Crumbs’, anticipates a forthcoming album, exuding a striking pop-punk allure that’s as sonically rewarding as it is lyrically meaningful. Channelling a certain early 2000s nostalgia, Musgrave embarks on a guitar-coded, uplifting anthem, one that sounds empowering and liberating, a mood that perfectly matches its songwriting aura.
From a lyrical standpoint, the single is drawn from Musgrave’s personal experience, as she codifies the emotional unavailability of an ex-partner and analyses how easy it can be not to recognise it at first, especially when romantic feelings are involved and may ‘blind’ us, so to speak. As Laura explains: “This song came from a past experience where I’d been turning someone’s crumbs into a full meal and convincing myself it was enough. It’s that moment where you clearly see that you deserve more and refuse to go back.”
