Kristina Lachaga: “From a very early age music has been a huge part of my life”

Emerging from New York, Kristina Lachaga is one of the most impressive voices we have heard this year. Despite her young age, she can already boast quite a long career, having taken part in teenage performances across a plethora of TV stations, industry events, and schools, especially while spreading a message of unity and awareness of bullyism.

Now, she returns with new music, ‘Love You More’, the project’s first record since 2021. In it, the listeners will immerse themselves in Lachaga’s soulful vocals, so evocative yet controlled, perfectly conveying the uplifting and heartwarming nature of the song, a passionate anthem to love and understanding.

What’s rather new, are the folk-infused sonic settings that so gracefully encapsulate Kristina’s soothing vocals. Known for her mainstream pop efforts in the past, the American talent seems to look into more relatable and friendly material, a feature that we are confident will go a long way into declaring her one of the most exciting newcomers.

Intrigued by the project, we caught up with Kristina Lachaga to find out more about her artistry and future goals… Interview below!

Hey Kristina, how is it going? some of our readers might not be familiar with your project, how would you describe yourself, in a few words?

Hey Mesmerized! I’m a Pop Singer/Songwriter based in the US! I’m also known as “The Girl With The Big Pink Heart™”. I’ve been singing professionally since I was 9 years old and I’ve performed in 48 states and Canada (just need Hawaii & Alaska!). I love turning my tangents (aka my song ideas) into songs that my fans can relate to and get inspired by them as they follow their dreams. I’m a lover of all things pink (yet I find myself mostly wearing black…I mean…it goes with everything), learning languages (I’m up to 5…including English), and I will pre-search anywhere I go to find out where to get the best bubble tea (I love bubble tea).

My new single ‘Love You More’ is soft and sweet and gives spring/summer vibes. Inspired by love that grows day by day, I hope ‘Love You More’ brings an endless amount of love and sunshine to those who listen to it.

Your current work is the result of a long journey; What first drew you to making music?

From a very early age music has been a huge part of my life. My Mom took me to music classes, brought me to concerts of every genre (world music, folk, pop, rock, jazz!), and we’d always have music on in the car. It’s funny, but I never saw myself *not* doing music in some way, shape or form. Growing up, whenever I’d try to do something else, music (or musicals or auditioning, etc.) always won out. I love performing, writing, and being creative.

If you had the opportunity to pick any artists in the world for a collaboration, who would be your first choice? (and second choice, perhaps?)

Based on Love You More, definitely Niall Horan. Maybe he could play the guitar and feature on the second verse and then we’d sing the rest together? I really like that idea!

I’d also love to perform at music festivals, so I’d love to feature on a song or two with a DJ so we can make that dream come true. Zedd, NOTD, and The Chainsmokers would be so amazing to work with!!

You recently released an evocative and uplifting single, ‘Love You More’ built on soothing acoustic tones and poignant lyricism. Is the song representative of the type of artist you’d like to be? Where do you see yourself going from here?

‘Love You More’ is really different from any of my prior releases and it was so exciting to release something unexpected. I’m so happy that people are enjoying it and relating to it. I definitely want to release more songs like ‘Love You More’. My upcoming releases are all different from each other, so I’m going to keep everyone guessing.

Do you feel more confident writing music alone, or within a team?

I’m confident in both situations, but I’m probably more comfortable coming to a session with a song idea that’s pretty much done (lyrics and melody written). Then we can just focus on the direction of the production – fine-tuning chords, melody, and lyrics.

How should the listener approach ‘Love You More’? – aka what’s the recommended listening procedure? 🙂

I feel like it’s a morning and/or afternoon pick-me-up. Maybe make yourself your fave cup of coffee? I don’t drink coffee (I consider myself pre-caffeinated), but I think it would go well with Love You More.

Artistically speaking, what challenges have the last two years presented you with?

I didn’t want to release music over the last two years because, for me, a big part of releasing music is the in-person component. I love performing and travelling and meeting people and doing in-studio interviews. I knew what I wanted to do with promoting ‘Love You More’ and other songs I’ve been sitting on, so I guess the biggest challenge has been…waiting. I also had to pivot to doing a lot of virtual events (performing and hosting!) and I even did two virtual concerts. I had a lot of fun and had amazing opportunities to create virtual events that maybe wouldn’t have worked as well in person (ahh…the irony).

What are the next steps for your project? Anything exciting on the horizon?

Yes! I’m releasing a music video for ‘Love You More’ this month and I’ll be doing some radio promo coming up, which I love. I’d love to open for artists on tour – even if it’s just a short run or supporting an artist in just a few cities regionally! I’m excited to see where ‘Love You More’ takes me!
