It’s quite an exciting time for Swedish troubadour and visionary kneeshake. Not only has he found love, but he’s also gearing up for an upcoming EP, ‘I Used To Give It All Away’, expected later this winter. Today, kneeshake unveils his latest single ‘Spine’, an elegant and cathartic gem that benefits from the help of co-producer and engineer Tom Sarram.
We are rather happy to be sent a positive love song, for a change. It’s also surprising that it would come from kneeshake, a project that we have come to know as heavily introspective and reflective. The record follows such lyrical uplift with a kinetic, alt-pop production, a piece that feels contemporary and bold, the perfect blend between atmospheric textures and anthemic grooves. kneeshake’s vocals are delivered with charisma and hopeful resolve, feeling controlled and precise as always.
Delving deeper into the record’s meaningful ethos, kneeshake explains: “It’s my first love song ever, dedicated to my boyfriend. But in old kneeshake fashion, some darkness is still lurking in the lyrics. I wrote it about falling in love and even though it’s all wonderful and giddy, I found myself wanting to incorporate the fear as well… that being, my anxiety and fear of not being enough or being too weird for love.”
