We had no idea who Kid Digital was until now, and that’s our fault. It turns out that the project is spearheaded by Sergei, originally at the forefront of the Russian breakbeat scene in the early 2000s. Championing a highly industrial and robotic ethos, the talented creative has recently delved into a more synthetic brand of breakbeat, conjuring a sound that’s intense and haunting, yet carefree, fun, and dance-inducing. ‘Reason’ is the strongest evidence of that.
Marking Kid Digital’s latest release, the track is out now via Dizzy Beats Records, a label founded by Sergei himself, after having relocated to Southern California. A keen cycling enthusiast, the talented producer and visionary enjoys not only Cali’s backcountry trails, but also its eclectic and internationally-driven music culture. It no doubt helped him develop a series of brainiac, magnetic and gripping pieces, the latest of which is on display in ‘Reason’. Oscillating between sonic chaos and cinematic epicness, the track is a perfect display of what we can expect from Kid Digital going forward.
Delving deeper into the single, the visionary producer explains: “After years of touring and evolving my craft, ‘Reason’ feels like a natural evolution. It’s got that wild, hype energy to get crowds jumping, but there’s an emotional undercurrent that hits differently when you’re just cruising or zoning out.”
