Kate Pending. What does she have in store for us? A stunning, diverse, and vibrant EP. Honestly, we wouldn’t expect anything less from the Berlin-based producer and sonic artist. We have written about the project last year, celebrating the release of ‘Pigmented Reality’. Since then, Pending has shared a collaborative EP with Luke Tangerine, ‘Tomorrow’s Dreams of Yesterday’, a body of work that speaks volumes about Kate’s vast pool of influences and references.
One could define her music as electronica, but we must warn the listeners about the heightened hypnotic charge and the overall dreaminess that come with it. Take ‘Two Words’, for instance, Pending’s latest EP. It’s hard to find an overall thread, at least an aural one. ‘Hibiskus’ opens the record with a German spoken words piece, featuring author Michael Huber, performer Patrizia Carlucci, and co-producer HARRiSON FiAT. From there on, we encounter spacious, nocturne and escapism-driven matter, the likes of ‘Nothing Changes’ and ‘Begging Blank’. ‘Walk Away’ finds a worthy refuge in club-oriented house territories instead.
‘Monkey Dust’ is the outsider, if you will, ending the EP in the same eclectic fashion as it started out. Imagine a slow-paced, meditative soundscape, all drenched in chill-out goodness and angelic tones. The record’s highly collaborative nature (including fellow creatives VOID LOOP and CRLCC) stems from a weekend retreat with friends dedicated to making music. Sharing is caring, as they say.
