Junodef Set Boundaries in Haunting Jewel ‘She Wants To Win’

The keen reader might remember a past feature we did for Junodef, Swedish trio with a knack for darkwave, lo-fi and shoegaze. We were pretty excited about the group at the time; writing about ‘Diane’s Robot’, we proudly declared: “a rewarding listening experience, channelling nostalgia and heartwrenching sadness by the truckloads. Introduced by a slow-paced, eerie arpeggiated guitar, the track soon evolves into a large, glum anthem, kidnapping the listener into its own pensive sonic universe.” Now based in London, Junodef seeks to further share their unique and hypnotising sonic goodness.

‘She Wants to Win’ is the chosen medium – a thrilling, haunting and chilling slice of indietronica. The record navigates more conventional territories than its predecessor, while always maintaining the same experimental flair. In ‘She Wants To Win’, the listener will be met with goth-style guitars, icy textures and evocative, celebrative vocals, the perfect match for such alternative musical settings.

Lyrically, Junodef focus on a theme that we suspect is particularly crucial for many of us; the ability to set boundaries with the people we care about. As the talented outfit explains: “Listen to your body when it’s telling you that you’re putting up with too much shit. Rethink relationships and situations where pressure rather than joy is the prevalent feeling. Do you feel free and respected in your relationships? If not, then byyyeeeee!”
