Juliet Callahan Returns with Self-Empowerment Anthem ‘Spotlight’

The keen reader might remember young songstress Juliet Callahan, gifted singer and songwriter currently making waves around L.A. and beyond, boasting a modern yet edgy pop character. Featuring her previous single, ‘Ghost Girl’, we proudly described: “the American talent built a charming identity over a modern brand of pop-rock, one that’s closely related to hip-hop-derived beats and trap influences.”

Now, Callahan returns to the international scene with a brand new single, ‘Spotlight’. Sonically, the record shuffles the cards a fair amount: leaving emo-flavoured guitars behind, the track sees hyper-pop bubble tones and electronica beats together with an early ‘2000 R&B chart imprint (think Rihanna or Britney Spears, as confirmed by Juliet herself).

Crowning this fantastic sonic concoction, Callahan’s vocals showcase their flexibility and their adaptive ability. Treated in long reverbs, Juliet comes across as a dreamy, ethereal performer, packing a lot of innovative force in a mere two-minute song.

Lyrically, the track seeks to celebrate independence and the power of self-confidence. As Callahan explains: “I made sure to set the intention that this song is for my listeners (and me personally) to embrace their inner “boss” or “bad b*tch” through this track the same way some of my favourite pop artists have taught me to embrace that side of myself. My goal through this track is for my listeners to be feeling themselves and be like: this is who I am, I love myself because of that, and nobody can tell me differently.”
