Jen Lush Returns After Long Hiatus with ‘Wolf & The Dog/Black Wing’

It’s been a long time since Jen Lush shared her music with the outer world. Yet, she hasn’t lost her strikingly tender and meaningful artistry, as ‘Wolf & The Dog/ Black Wing’ clearly showcases. The Australian songstress finds a heartfelt refuge in folk and art-rock territories, unfurling a listening experience that constantly oscillates between gentle charisma and hard-hitting confidence. ‘Wolf & The Dog’ follows that very same script, introduced by a sparse, heartwarming arrangement, before wholesome rock’n’roll guitars join the sonic picture.

This is what Lush does best: writing evocative and vibrant pieces with heightened introspective charge, threading the fine line between light and darkness, melancholia and hope. Whichever way you look at it, it’s impossible to remain neutral to the Adelaide-based creative. Love it or hate it, her musical output is honest and hard-hitting. ‘Black Wing’ takes a more ballad-driven approach, especially in its reflective songwriting, as Lush explains: “A meditation on impermanence and letting go, it was written with an ordinary pencil, in a quietly extraordinary moment.”

Doubling down on ‘Wolf & The Dog’, she continues: “Inspired by Georgia Blain’s novel, it inhabits the dusky threshold where friend blurs with foe, and the known slips into uncertainty.” Well, the double single is certainly a welcome return for the Aussie hero, and we look forward to finding out what’s next for her. Stay tuned!
