We are truly honest when we say that ‘Real Deal’ is a surprisingly good record. We use the word ‘surprising’ to refer to Janita’s long career in music and the creative juices that apparently she is still enjoying. Whichever way you look at it, ‘Real Deal’ flourishes of its own light; fierce, dynamic and evocative, the track is a slice of alt/rock-pop with a certain nostalgic quality to it. Yet, it doesn’t feel dated, and it’s incredibly gentle and interesting on the ears.
Anticipating an upcoming album expected in May 2025 (‘Mad Equation’), ‘Real Deal’ features expert production by Blake Morgan (Lenny Kravitz, Lesley Gore, David Cloyd). The result is absolutely outstanding, with the single sparking high expectations for what’s to come. Speaking about the inspiration behind the song, Janita explains: “Being an artist in this world is a mad pursuit, yet it’s the work I’ve schooled myself in, and done, all my life. So I find myself living, symbolically, in a permanent shootout like Butch and Sundance and I’m alright with it. More than just ‘alright’ with it—it’s the life I’ve chosen.”
Originally from Finland, where she became a national star, Janita then made the move to New York thanks to a record deal with Sony. Eventually, she would find her lasting identity as an independent project, something that’s certainly paid off. ‘Real Deal’ is the strongest evidence of that.
