Seeing Jakob The Liar reach his milestone EP makes us particularly proud. We have been following him for much of his journey – including the recent political anthem ‘Paradigm $H!T’ – gradually realising how Jakob’s main strength is his ability to observe reality with critical eyes, distilling the important topics and adapting them in aural form. That’s what his debut EP ‘Wake Up Mr. Kupferberg’ stands for, in a nutshell, together with being a deeply personal record.
Drawing a parallel between introspective growth and the challenges of our society, the London-based creative pens a highly alluring and nuanced body of work, one that’s bound to enlarge even more with the upcoming wider album ‘The Great Awakening’. In a way, ‘Wake Up Mr. Kupferberg’ marks the halfway point towards it, with an eclectic aural take on the project’s overarching influences. Oscillating between indie-rock extravaganza and a more kaleidoscopic pop-rock livery, Jakob The Liar is not afraid to use sweet, anthemic melodies and synthetic elements when they are needed.
In that regard, ‘Sunchild’ is particularly beautiful, very evocative yet hopeful, with a stunningly rich and elegant arrangement. Lyrically, ‘Wake Up Mr. Kupferberg’ is certainly a deeply personal record, one that seeks to dissect some of Jakob’s most daring emotional turbulence and eventual reckonings. As he explains: “The EP dives straight into the quintessential topics of 2025: self-awareness, grief, love, resistance and re-birth.”
