A gifted composer, classical guitarist and overall creative soul, Inez Leon has recently unveiled her latest effort, ‘Tan Lejos’. A Latin-flavoured, soulful piece, the track showcases the California-based songstress’ immense elegance, birthing a record that’s incredibly buoyant and evocative. Marking the arrival of a substantial EP, ‘Del Alhelí’ – out on April 18th via Muse Tones – ‘Tan Lejos’ helps us reckon with Leon’s newly-found artistic livery, a character born out of introspective reflection and committed healing.
Seeking to rebuild her resilience and confidence after the end of a long relationship, Inez was eager to reclaim her identity, relocating to Mexico between 2023 and 2024. It worked: acquiring a taste for Spanish lyricism, Leon puts her nuanced musical skills to good use, blending gentle guitars with pop and Latin elements. The result is honest, authentic material, songs that feel deeply personal to the American-Mexican’s personal history.
Teaming up with fellow guitarists and composers Pablo Langaine and Eric Barrita, Inez Leon quickly wrote ‘Del Alhelí’. Speaking about the inspiration behind the record, she explains: “The EP serves as a love letter to Mexico and the inner transformation my ancestral home brought me”. A highly enticing and hypnotising piece, ‘Tan Lejos’ requires the listeners to take their time, fully absorbing the charming artistry championed by Leon.
